New Year’s Eve Safety & Security Tips

All SecuredAnother year has come and gone and it’s time to celebrate the end of 2015 and welcome in 2016. While you’re reflecting on past events and wondering what the New Year has in store, staying safe may not top your list of priorities. There’s no reason to start off the year with regrets, so if you’re planning on celebrating at home or away, make it as safe as possible.

Staying Safe Away from Home

Here are some great safety tips to keep in mind when you’re not at home:

Protect your home – Just because you’re not there doesn’t mean your home should be any less safe. Before you go out, make sure all doors and windows are locked, and your alarm is set.

Protect your pets – Loud noises can be terrifying for pets. Providing a quiet place with food and water for your pet will help them feel more secure and less likely to try to run away. Making sure your pet’s tags or microchips are current will make it easier to find them if they do make a break for it.

Drive safe – If you’re planning on driving, be safe. Accidents are more likely to occur on holidays, so stay vigilant and, of course, stay sober. Don’t forget: seatbelts save lives, so be sure to use them.

Drink safe – It’s no secret that New Year’s Eve is a drinking holiday. Designate a driver, drink plenty of water, eat a good meal, and enjoy your evening without putting yourself in unnecessary danger.

Staying Safe in Your Home

In order to be the best possible host, it’s crucial to create a safe experience for everyone. Here are some tips to keep you, your guests, and your home protected on New Year’s Eve.

Prevent fires – Guests, pets, and decorations are all fire hazards at this time of year. Make sure that all smoke detectors and fire extinguishers are fully charged and up to date. Keep décor away from open flames and never leave cooking food unattended.

Guard against theft – Parties are the perfect time for thieves to gain access to your home. Putting away valuables like jewelry where company can’t access them will help keep your things safely out of strangers’ hands.

Prepare for transportation – Calling a local cab company and booking rides for guests in advance is a great way to help prevent anyone who’s been drinking at your home from getting behind the wheel.

Festivities on New Year’s Eve are all about celebrating the ups and downs of another year gone by and the anticipation of a new one to come. Taking a few simple precautions can be the difference between having a happy New Year and a disastrous start. If you have any questions about how you can make the last day of the year a safer one, All Secured is here to help.
